7 May 2010 - Belgium attracts an increasing number of international retailers

The new edition of the "How Global is the Business of Retail?" report by leading global real estate adviser CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) - now in its third year – maps the global footprint of 294 of the world’s top retailers across 69 countries.

In general, Europe is the most international retail market.  All five of the largest European economies are ranked in the top eight destinations, UK being the dominant retail country.

Belgium reinforces its international character and moves up to 15th  place.  With no less than 110 global retailers opening at least one store, Belgium shares 37% of international brands.

Among top cities for retailers venturing outside of their home regions, Asia and the Middle East account for almost half of the top 20 most international markets in the new report.

Major European cities of London, Paris  and Milan continue to attract the majority of international retailers. Brussels showed to have true potential for further globalization by moving up 6 places in the global ranking.
